The Supernatural Superpower of Love
If you could have any superpower in the world, what would it be? Invisibility? Super-speed? The ability to fly and shoot lasers from your eyes? What if I told you that the greatest superpower of all is within reach of every human being…because even in the humble, hidden, ordinary and everyday circumstances of life, the love of God in the depths of the soul is the most powerful force in the world.

Well, that’s exactly what Sister Maria Consolata Betrone (1903-1946) was called to… And by the grace of Almighty God, that’s exactly what she did! Servant of God Consolata Betrone- A Little Backstory
Sister Consolata was a Franciscan Capuchin from Italy, and though she is still relatively little known within both Church and secular circles, after reading through the remarkable “Jesus Appeals to the World” written by her spiritual director Lorenzo Sales, I believe she will be soon revered and emulated by many for generations to come!
This is because through her, Our Lord has revealed and established a new spiritual way which compliments and completes St. Therese’s beloved “Little Way,” that is, “The Littlest Way of Love.” Interestingly, Sister Consolata often read “The Story of a Soul” as spiritual reading in her earlier years in the cloister, and one day Jesus Himself told her on November 27th, 1935:
“Little Saint Thérèse once wrote: “Why is it not given to me, O Jesus, to relate Your ineffable condescension to all little souls? I have a feeling that if the impossible were to happen and You were able to find a soul still weaker than my own, it would please You to heap upon her still greater favors, if only that soul would abandon herself with complete faith to Your infinite mercy.”
Well, I have found that still weaker soul who had abandoned herself with complete faith to My infinite mercy: it is you, Consolata, and through you I will perform marvels which will far exceed your fondest desires!”
Sales explains that the form of spiritual childhood to which Sister Consolata was called to consisted in not only to performing “all actions with love, not only to gather up and offer up with love the flowers of small sacrifices and small acts of virtue, but to make an effort to enliven every instant of this short earthly journey with love.”
- Praying the Act of Love dictated by Jesus- “Jesus, Mary, I love You! Save souls!”- as often as possible from one Communion to the next. For Sister Consolata, this amounted to making acts of love about 17 hours a day, every day for around 10 years (except, of course when she was writing, meditating, or speaking out of necessity and charity, in which cases Jesus promised to continue the Act of Love Himself)! Though it sounds far-fetched, it certainly was not impossible with the constant grace, endless power, and tender help from God, Who is Love Itself. In fact, Jesus promised her that millions upon millions of souls would one day follow her in endeavoring to make their lives a ceaseless act of love, as a “Littlest One” of Love, or at least a frequent act of love, as a “Little Angelet.”
- Having a “smiling yes” for everyone, so as to see and serve Christ in each person He sends our way.
- Having a “grateful yes” for everything, accepting with love and trust all He permits in our lives, good and bad alike.
Seize the Day by Sanctifying the Moment
The Messages of Maranatha Spring and Shrine often speak of sanctifying the moment by living the present in Holy Love. Consider the following Prayer for Personal Sanctification in the Present Moment that Jesus revealed on July 20th, 2005, to be prayed every morning:
“Heavenly Father, I desire to live in your Divine Will in every present moment by living in Holy Love in thought, word and deed.” “When I am distracted or tempted, I ask my guardian angel to remind me of the present moment so that I may sanctify each moment through Holy Love. Amen.”
But what exactly does it mean to “sanctify each moment through Holy Love”? Because God is Eternal and God is Love (1 John 4:8), by abiding in Him through loving, we allow His love to flow into all of our thoughts, words, and actions, thus sanctifying and eternalizing all of our present moments, which otherwise might have been wasted and lost. The more we love Christ, the True Vine, especially through prayer and the sacraments, the closer we, the branches, will be infused into Him, and the more good fruit our present moments will bear, not only in time, but perpetually, throughout all of eternity (John 15:16)! St. Therese explains this concept when she says that “Love makes time eternal by giving divine value to everything.” Indeed, Jesus confirmed this on November 5th, 2006 in a special Message to all peoples and nations: “The only thing you lose forever in the present moment is that which is not loving. The only thing which you save in the Eternal Now is all that you think, say and do in Holy Love. Holy and Divine Love are eternal.”
Perhaps this is why Mother Teresa once said, “Every Holy Hour we make so pleases the Heart of Jesus that it will be recorded in Heaven and retold for all of eternity.” Truly, “love never ends!” (1 Corinthians 13:8) and why Our Lord told Sister Consolata, “When you last ‘Jesus, Mary, I love You!” will have been pronounced, I will gather it up, and through the writings of your life, I will transmit it to thousands of sinful souls who will receive and follow it in the simplicity of this way of confidence and love, and they will thus love Me.” Truly, “love never ends!” (1 Corinthians 13:8).
So how exactly do we love God to the greatest possible extent? For Catholic Christians, loving God, far from being a distant and elusive idea is a concrete and physical reality that can be experienced every day in the reception of the living God-Man, Jesus Christ Himself, hidden in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. And though one must be a practicing Catholic in a state of grace (that is, free from all mortal sin) in order to be able to worthily receive Our Lord’s Precious Body and Blood at Mass, anyone of any faith at any time can adore Him in the exposed Host during Eucharistic Adoration.
Yet, what about all the other precious present moments during the day? Mustn’t we, as St. Padre Pio advised, “rise up and value every instant of time that passes and is in our power. We must not waste a single moment”? After all, if we are striving not merely to get to Heaven, but to reach the highest possible place in Heaven, closest to the very Throne of the Most Holy Trinity and bring as many souls as possible with us, we should consider St. Tomas of Aquinas’s words to Maureen Sweeney-Kyle, regarding the Highest Heavens (the 6th Chamber of the United Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and Immersion into the Divine Will of God the Father):
“There are martyrs and other saints who are in the highest place in the Fifth Chamber–for there are certain priority levels within each Chamber–all according to merit. Yet, these saints, while standing very close to the Sixth Chamber, are not allowed entrance.” “You cannot understand this unless you comprehend that every present moment counts towards your eternal reward.”
I believe that ceaseless Act of Love is the newest, shortest, fastest, and easiest Way, by which we can, as Father Lorenzo Sales explains, by giving “the maximum value to every instant of our short earthly journey for the glory of God, our own sanctification, and the salvation of souls.” Sister Agnes Imaculee of the Children of Mary (a religious in a community committed to returning the infinite Love of Our Eucharistic Savior with a life of continual love!) goes on to elaborate on the ceaseless act of love and address many of the practical questions on loving from one Communion to the next in the following very insightful video:
Note: To love is an act of the will, which may or may not include the feelings. That is why Jesus told Sister Consolata: “Love Me continually. It doesn’t matter if your heart is made of stone or ice!” and why Mother Mary reveals to Anne a Lay Apostle in “Volume 1: Thoughts on Spirituality”: “Do not think that the merit of your prayer is based on how you feel when you are praying. You may feel nothing on some days, but you must persevere and believe me when I tell you that on those days, when you feel nothing, you are saving as many souls through your smallest prayers as on the days when all of heaven seems open to you.”
Love is Sacrifice
Additionally, Jesus revealed on February 9th, 2008: “Do not wonder what type of sacrifice to offer Me; for the greatest and most perfect of all sacrifices is to live in Holy Love in every present moment. To do so dictates a total dying to self. This is the sum total of all I ask.”
This, to me, seems perfectly in line with Sister Consolata’s mission and those of all future “Littlest Ones”, for as she relates in one of her diary entries on July 14th, 1936:
“…During recreation it had been stated that she loves Jesus the most who makes the most sacrifices. While pondering over these words during this evening’s meditation, I became saddened because I do not make any great sacrifices for Jesus, and yet I have so intense a desire to love Him ardently! Am I not, therefore, a poor deluded being?… I raised my eyes to the statue of the Blessed Virgin in front of me, and as I regarded it, a comforting though shot through me: what great thing had Our Lady done during her earthly sojourn at Nazareth? And yet no creature will ever surpass her in her love of God. While I was thinking of her and promising to imitate her, I heard these words: ‘In order to love Jesus deeply, you must do everything possible to make your unceasing act of love as intense as possible.'”
This, of course, doesn’t mean that sacrifices are not required of the Littlest Ones. On the contrary, this spiritual way aims to not miss a single sacrifice or act of mortification, as well as act of charity or kindness, throughout the day. In Jesus’ own words, “Consider St. Peter: alone, he had fished all night and hadn’t caught a thing; with Me, he had barely thrown in the nets before they were full of fish. In the same way, if you remain in Me, with each inspiration to mortification that I send you, you will throw in the nets and I will pull them in, full of souls which you will only know in Paradise.” If this sounds intense or intimidating to you, fear not! For it is precisely in making the act of love consistently that one acquires the strength necessary for making these little sacrifices with great love by being as closely united to Jesus as possible. In Jesus’ own words, “Consolata, establish within yourself a continuous “Jesus, Mary, I love You. Save souls!” Consider that it’s the only resolution that will allow you to say “YES” to all of my request for sacrifices.” Truly, to quote Sister Consolata herself, “The ceaseless act of love is more powerful than any suffering: so, to place myself above suffering, I must not cease to love.”
Though our daily crosses and sacrifices, small and large, are a part of our lives as human beings, I find that it is focusing all possible attention and efforts on actively loving Love better and more, via the continual Act of Love-what I can control- instead of passively perceiving or, worse, rebelling over the pain- what I usually cannot control. If it is the love in our hearts and not the cost to the soul that God looks at in determining the merit of our sacrifices (see St. Therese’s message, on ), then should we not be focused entirely on the giving of Love, instead of what that gift might take from us? In this way, we resolve to be constantly giving Love, and abandon what we receive, good or bad, to He Who Loves us with the hypervigilance of a mother, the audacity of a madman, and the intensity of a martyr. As Our Blessed Mother Mary has advised us in the Church Approved locutions to “Anne” a lay apostle”: “We are going to take care of everything. You need only to love Jesus and let Him direct your life. Be like a small sparrow, living only in the moment, confident that God will provide everything needed for the next day, the next season, and the next year. Your mother blesses you.” (Volume 1: Thoughts On Spirituality).
Of course, just like souls that have attained the 5th innermost chamber of the United hearts, the Littlest Ones are to love and love again after mistakes in all tranquility, even and especially after inevitable falls, which Sister Consolata states expressly at the end of her letter to all the future Littlest Ones of the Heart of Jesus: To the Littlest Ones.
My Journey to Becoming A “Littlest One”
I personally felt very attracted to the Littlest Way of Love when I read about it. I first encountered a certain form of the Act of Love prayer on the following website, which has great resources on prayer and its effects:

Later, I discovered the following words in an updated version of the Pietà Book:
But it wasn’t until reading the following “Catechism” so-to-speak of “The Littlest Way of Love” by Lorenzo Sales that I felt called to become, like Consolata, a “Littlest One” of Love and commit myself to the ceaseless act of love. Since committing myself to the unceasing act of love as a Littlest One, I would try for a while (very unsuccessfully I should add) to pray “Jesus, Mary, I love You! Save souls!” at all times during the day, while still maintaining my other devotional practices- as Sr. Consolata recommends in her letter to all the future Littlest Ones- such as the Rosary of the Unborn. (I often intersperse the Act of Love with the Rosary of the Unborn, and even, if I’m feeling particularly arid, some spiritual reading, such as the Volumes, Holy Love Ministry Messages, and of course the God’s Blue Book Love Letters, which Jesus recommends us to read every day for at least 10 minutes, especially before Him in the Tabernacle). Reading “SAVE SOULS” (with Church Imprimatur on catholictradition.org) and “I will think of Everything. You, think of only loving Me: The Ceaseless Act of Love” by that same order of religious sisters, the Children of Mary, which Sister Agnes Immaculee is a part of (which is only $4.50 on Amazon Kindle!) inspired and helped nourish me on this new and exciting prayer journey, and I could quickly feel the liberating and enlivening effects of this simplified spiritual way.
The New Act of Love: A New Littlest Way?
Finally, relatively recently, I stumbled upon yet another mystical revelation, given to German mystic Justine Klotz (1888-1984). It is the following “updated” or “New Act of Love” which received the imprimatur of the Chruch in 2013:
“Jesus, Mary, I love You!
Save priestly souls! Save souls!
I beseech You!
Grant me to repeat this Act of Love 1,000 times with my every breath, my every heartbeat.”

My understanding is that the means of the Littlest Way should all remain the same but the only thing that should substantially change is the formula (Jesus tells us in “God Speaks to the Soul” the compilation of Justine Klotz’s spiritual writings, “Pray assiduously the ACT OF LOVE! It has to be like a clock that never stops”), for the new Act of Love revealed to Justine Klotz is said to partially replace the original Act of Love given to Sr. Consolata. Of course, I was a little hesitant to replace the Act of Love so as not to deviate from the spiritual way outlined, but after praying for and receiving a sign (in the form of a particular reversion of someone close to me), as well as doing more research and even contacting someone in Germany specifically affiliated with Father Hubert, the priest responsible for spreading the writings, I am convinced that this is the way to go, at least for me personally.
Why? You might ask… Well, besides blindly trusting in the direction of the Holy Spirit and His priest here, the promises of this prayer are so sublime. Jesus reveals that the New Act of Love is “a nuclear part without equal” and even that it “is always a consecration to my love, as much as a solemn Holy Mass” (WoW! For Catholics who know, it is evident that a prayer of this magnitude which “intonates the Ave Maria” [“Hail Mary”] could only be obtained for and from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and with the greatest and most abundant graces of these dark and dire spiritual times). And with the salvation of so many souls on the line, why not pray it at least in the morning or evening, (for as our Lord promised: “If every soul would pray it once in the morning and again only once at the end of the day, the thousand would be completely accepted, as every raindrop that falls into the oceans and none of them could be fished out again”)? Or, if you’re ridiculously aspiring to be a “Littlest One” of Love like me, why not take a risk and incorporate it as your life’s background, or spiritual “breathing”? Yet with whatever frequency and fervor you can pray this Act of Love, remember that it is so powerful that Jesus has said: “It is an eternal offering. Even while you are thinking about it, I can save many souls“, “Oh Child, I don’t see your mistakes. Make an Act of Love and everything will be fine.” “I love this Act of Love. I have attached great graces to it.” “How my Mother cried for the sake of souls! It is for Her that I established the Act of Love, so infinitely great for each soul, and forever.”
Additionally, the New Act included the petition for the salvation of priests, and of course, when we pray for priests, we are really praying for all those they impact and indeed the whole world. As Mirjana the Medjugorje visionary recently declared in rousing Catholics to pray for and love their priests or “shepherds” as Our Lady calls them: So from this moment we are living now until her [Our Immaculate Mother Mary’s] triumph, there is a bridge and that bridge is the priests. And Our Lady decided that we must pray for priests so that this bridge may form.”
Moreover, concerning the utmost importance of praying for priests, Jesus told Catalina Rivas in the mystical messages (with Church approval) to her on the Passion: “You will soon know that I had to tell you this because I love you and because I promise anyone who prays for My priests, the remission of all due temporal punishment. There will be no Purgatory for those who grieve because of lukewarm priests, but rather Paradise immediately after their last breath.”
There are, of course, more everyday practical benefits to using the new formula over the old. For one, it really serves to enhance my fervor when I ponder really what I am saying and try to make every word count! (No wonder Our Lord told Justine Klotz, “Every act of love inflames as never before”)! Also, because it is a little longer and slightly harder to inherently ingrain, it seems (at lebefore becoming very deeply established and engrained in me), more effective in combating distracting thoughts, given the increased focus it requires to successfully and continually execute with love. And finally, while the original act of love might be able to be prayed during the bulk of any and all conversations, praying with the New Act of Love really forces one to stop and be present to the person Our Lord has placed in front of us and attentive to the words He wants to say through us. For He tells us through Anne the Lay Apostle in the beautiful Volume 2: Conversations with the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus“: “Look for opportunities to serve Me in the people I place in your path. If you sense that I need you to assist a soul, let your spirit go quiet while I place the proper inspirations in your heart and mind. Then you may respond o to the need in this soul for Me, and My word, My presence will have been achieved.”
1,000 Souls? How Can It Be?
Now, I understand that saving 1,000 souls every time this prayer is devoutly prayed, and even with breath and every heartbeat, might be hard to believe, especially for skeptics in our modern world. But perhaps this is why Our Lord tells us that “this Act of Love is an act of trust to the greatest extent” and tells us to, “Pray with great trust!” I’m reminded here of the illustrative metaphor Jesus gave us on July 24th, 1999 through the visionary Maureen Sweeney-Kyle: “The degree of faith in the heart when a prayer is offered is like the heat in an oven. The warmer the oven the more quickly and completely the bread is baked. The higher the degree of faith, the more quickly and completely a prayer is answered.”
Let us remember that according to ecology.com, every day, about 360,000 more human beings are born into the world1 (which doesn’t include the approximately 150,000 unborn children who are conceived and then tragically killed in the womb by the crime of abortion2, nor the souls conceived who don’t make it to childbirth due to death by natural causes- which are actually reported to be half of all fertilized eggs3– who are still immortal souls in need of Christ’s Salvation to attain the beatific vision of God for all of eternity!). Indeed, let us also remember that these times are unprecedented in both the scope and severity of sin and yet infinite supply and unimaginable quality of grace, for “where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more” (Romans 5:20). The Saints have “holy envy” of us from Heaven as Father Michael Gaitley put it and Saint Anthony in Volume 7, Greetings from Heaven confirms: “When I look upon the world today, I am truly jealous of all the opportunities to serve”… There is no limit what I can do with a soul who trusts (from Volume 1?). Finally, consider how there is no limit to what God’s generosity toward and action through a soul who trusts Him unreservedly. Let us then do as Our Lord commands and pray this New Act of Love with great trust, so as to make it more furtile and effective for souls!
Just think of the great saints like St. Faustina, who writes in her Diary: “When I immersed myself in prayer and united myself with all the Masses that were being celebrated all over the world at that time, I implored God, for the sake of all these Holy Masses, to have mercy on the world and especially on poor sinners who were dying at that moment. At the same instant, I received an interior answer from God that a thousand souls had received grace through the prayerful mediation I had offered to God. We do not know the number of souls that is ours to save through our prayers and sacrifices; therefore, let us always pray for sinners (1783).”
Or consider how in “The Soul of the Apostolate,” Father Jean-Baptiste Chautard cites a trustworthy source which reveals that St. Teresa of Avila was so fervent that she converted 10,000 heretics by one of her prayers! Of course, these greatest of the great saints are the fewest of the few, and in our modern day even practicing Catholics praying with great consistency and confidence might be far and in between, but if to His Apostles’ Jesus says, “You must begin to equate even your smallest crosses to so many souls rescued from the darkness,” we must never underestimate how much good God can work through one person, even in just one cross, one prayer, one sacrifice, one moment, one act of love!
Lastly, since God is eternal and omnipotent, and our heartfelt prayers to Him transcends even time and space, it may be that a New “Act of Love” you pray now could be applied to the salvation of souls that lived in Pharos’s day and age, or to souls that are living hundreds of years after us! This perhaps is why I believe mystic and stigmatist St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina is quoted saying, “Maybe you don’t know that I can pray even now for the happy death of my great-grandfather. ”
At the end of the day, even if I’m doing my math and/or logical reasoning wrong, we might simply look with eyes of childlike simplicity and dependence up to our Papa God and simply say what small children often say to their parents, as Jesus Himself encourages us to say, in Volume 2: “You promised!”
To Conclude
If you’re wondering, I find this New Act of Love a great aid in my spiritual and everyday life. I should probably denote this by saying I am not a cloistered religious, but am living in the world and doing active ministry, where there can be, at any time, a lot of potential distractions! I’m reminded though, that Sister Consolata, who kept the strictest of silence, essentially suggested that this Act of Love could keep even souls with many activities in the world recollected, and also of God the Father’s message just a few weeks ago, on March 3rd, 2019, via holylove.org: “Allow the Tabernacle of My Son’s Heart to open and admit you in off-and-on throughout the day. If you are busy in the world, say little ejaculatory prayers off-and-on intermittently as you work – ‘Jesus, I love You.’, ‘Mary, My Heavenly Mother, come to My aid.”
To think that each and every New Act of Love is “so infinitely great for each soul, and forever” helps me stay in the present moment and focus my attention, energy, and efforts on making each New Act of Love with as much love, joy, and peace as possible! This is the goal. For what Our Blessed Mother Mary told Maureen Sweeney-Kyle on February, 13th, 1994, I believe she calls us to everyday: “Today I want you to give Me the whole day, moment to moment in Holy Love; not looking back; not looking ahead. Immerse your heart in Mine in this way, so that our hearts are one and beat as one. For in eternity this is how it will be, My angel. Such joy you give Me in this act of confidence such resplendent joy. Sustain your peace in this way. I am Mary, Queen and Mother. All praise be to Jesus!”
I also find it interesting to think that Sister Consolata herself, the “model” for all future Littlest Ones, would often remind herself that each Act of Love which perpetuate for good for all of eternity, and that the Blessed Mother even told her at the end of her life, she will in vain wish she could make but another act of love. (It also reminds me of Jesus’ mysterious words on August 20th, 2010: “My brothers and sisters, whenever possible turn your hearts lovingly to prayer in the present moment. This will lead you closer to Divine Love. There are many souls in Purgatory today who wish they could say one more Hail Mary in front of the tabernacle, and promptly be delivered into Heaven by so doing.“)
Of course, it is up to the Holy Spirit to inspire souls to this New Spiritual Way and indeed New Act of Love. Still, remember that that Our Lord revealed to Justine Klotz that it is for everyone, and all who pray it at least once, will be treated like the workers in the last hour! Also, recall that in addition to a great number of men and women Jesus is calling to be “Littlest Ones” (which are actually a minority in the grand scheme), He is calling many more souls, including those of the littlest children, to make at least frequent acts of Love, as “Little Angelets.” Yet with whatever frequency and fervor you can pray this Act of Love, whether you’re loftily aspiring to be a “Littlest One” of Love, who is attempting to incorporate this New Act of Love as your life’s steady background prayer, or spiritual “breathing” (or at least in all your free moments of the day, such as driving, waiting in line, doing laundry, falling asleep at night, ect.) or if you’re just thinking of praying it once in the morning and once before bed as Jesus has asked, keep in mind that it is not the quantity of acts of love Our Lord is looking for but the quantity and depth of love in our hearts.
Thus, let us be open to the outpouring of Holy Spirit like the first Apostles were, so as to be filled with most powerful force in the world, the force that brought about the birth of the Christian Church 2,000 years ago: LOVE. Indeed, Love continues to awaken the reign of Kingdom of God in hearts today, for as Jesus told Sister Consolata: “Yes, ask forgiveness for poor guilty humanity, ask for the triumph of my Mercy for them, but especially, ask, oh! ask for an outpouring upon them of the embrace of divine Love which, like a new Pentecost, delivers mankind from its illnesses.”
Let us therefore resolve as St. Bernadette did, to spend every possible second loving, or at least love Jesus a little more with our act of love to Him in the next moment, our “smiling yes” to Him in everyone and our “grateful yes” to Him in everything He so lovingly sends our way! In time, this New Way of Love and New Act of Love will surely spread, many, many souls will find a secure eternity in the family of God, and our own hearts will be a little closer to the Sacred and Immaculate United Hearts of the Holy Trinity, until God is truly all in all, the good fight has been fought, the race has been finished, and the war has been won! For as Jesus told Justine Klotz in “God Speaks to the Soul“: “I want to destroy the power of the devil with the Act of Love. I showed you how little David went to fight with small stones and you have the Act of Love multiplied a thousand fold. I will show you how much it is worth. Souls, Souls! A lamentation of My love! Death must give way to these souls, because love cannot die. The cross had become victorious!”
Indeed, LOVE has conquered, is conquering, and will conquer overwhelmingly…for Love really is most powerful superpower in the world!
